NEW: ​SPS Emergency Scholarship

The AIP-SPS Emergency Scholarship was established by the Society of Physics Students, the American Institute of Physics (AIP), and donors to provide relief funding for undergraduate students impacted negatively by the COVID-19 pandemic and effects thereof. The award consists of an up to $2,000 scholarship. Scholarship amounts are reviewed individually, on a case-by-base basis.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, undergraduate physics and astronomy students may have been displaced, lost employment, had summer internship opportunities become unavailable, or need financial assistance to continue their studies. 
Apply today if you've been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Applications are reviewed once per month and are accepted on a rolling basis.
*Please note that transcripts are only used to confirm enrollment and progress towards a physics degree. Grades will not be a determining factor.*

SPS Leadership Scholarship

  • Several $2000-$5000 awards may be made each year
  • Awarded on the basis of academic performance and leadership in SPS
  • Applicants must have junior level standing

SPS Future Teacher Scholarship

  • One $2000 award may be made each year
  • Awarded to undergraduate students on the basis of scholarship, SPS participation, and a stated teaching career objective

Underrepresented Student

​Scholarship

  • ​One $2,000 award may be made each year
  • Awarded to undergraduate students who are from a group that is underrepresented in science and engineering, on the basis of scholarship and SPS participation

Herbert Levy Memorial

​Scholarship

  • One $2,000 award may be made each year
  • Awarded to undergraduate students on the basis of scholarship, SPS participation, and financial need

Scholarship

  • One $2,000 award may be made each year
  • Awarded to undergraduate students on the basis of scholarship and SPS participation

Kirsten R. Lorentzen Award

  • One $2,000 award will be made each year; recipient will also be invited to attend a professional physics meeting in the year following receipt of the award
  • Awarded to a female student in her sophomore or junior year of study
  • Awarded to an exceptionally well-rounded student who excels in her studies as well as outdoor activities, service, sports, music, or other non-academic pursuits or who has overcome significant obstacles

​The Enћui Junior Merit Scholarship

The Enћui Junior Merit Scholarship is a new opportunity presented by SPS and The USC Department of Physics and Astronomy for students within the department to receive funding towards their education. This scholarship is in memory of Ms. Enћui Hu, the late grandmother of Prof. Jia Grace Lu in the Physics Department at the University of Southern California. Ms. Enћui Hu wholeheartedly gave her life to aiding and encouraging others in the pursuit of enlightenment. To find out more, click below.
